About the Department of Philosophy:

The Department of Philosophy is one of the initial departments of Turku Hansda Lapsa Hemram Mahavidyalay which was established in 2011 when Philosophy was taught as a General subject in B.A. Pass Course. Philosophy as an Honours subject began its journey in 2017. The Department of Philosophy tries to provide its students a wide variety of interesting courses that address moral issues to attain social good and moral values. Philosophy being the most practical course of study, the department tries to impart skills that will be useful not only in any career but also in personal life. The study of Philosophy will enable one to think carefully, critically and with clarity, take a logical approach to address challenging questions and examining hard issues, reason well and evaluate the reasoning of others and discuss sensibly. The teachers guide their students towards developing their talent in various fields by involving them in debates, seminars and discussions in class. Students are encouraged to maintain Departmental Wall-Magazine and participate in extension activities like NSS , drill and march past, recitation, singing, dancing etc. and similar other activities. A good number of students go for their higher studies in the University of Burdwan & others University. Our motto is to enrich the knowledge of the students of Philosophy with special emphasis on the spiritual, moral and ethical values and to create a calm, peaceful and noble atmosphere amongst the students, so that they can enable themselves to be a good moral citizen in future. Philosophy is a natural deep study. It is a romantic subject and undoubtedly it is as valuable as gold though may not be as useful as coal. Now-a day in the turmoil, troublesome and violent society philosophy can be one of the ways for peace and harmony. Studying and practicing philosophy can help in this field.
